How the PurjFam POD works, feature by feature: the stemless body, the purge from underneath, the 77-hole diffuser and why it takes about two minutes to clean.
Every part, labelled
PurjFam's own picture of the POD and what each part does. The sound adjustment is the diffuser inside; the flow adjustment is the plate on the floor that sets the draw.

Fine bubbles, smoother draw
Inside the hot chamber, two opposing channels split the smoke into two streams. This slows the air down and keeps it against the aluminium for longer before the streams meet again at the diffuser.
The diffuser plate is precision-made with 77 holes of 2 mm each, so the smoke breaks up into lots of small bubbles. PurjFam say this filters and cools the smoke better than a traditional straight downstem.

Choose the sound
The POD comes with two diffuser plates. The perforated plate, with its 77 holes, gives a quieter session with fine bubbles and smooth filtering.
Fit the solid plate instead and the smoke goes out through the large holes on the side of the diffuser: bigger, louder bubbles, a little less filtering and a more direct taste.

Set your pull
Most shishas have a fixed draw. The POD has three draw settings, from tight to open, set with an optional restrictor plate.
The plate fits without screws or tools, so changing the setting takes seconds. There is a video showing how in the user guide.

Purges from underneath
Two compact, high-flow purge valves sit under the base. When you purge, the old smoke leaves in four streams across the table, so the chamber clears quickly.
It clears the chamber fast without flooding the bowl, and it looks good doing it.

Purge as hard as you like
The diffuser is "normally closed". A stainless steel door inside it seals against the rush of water when you blow into the POD to purge, so water cannot be pushed up into the bowl.

Keeps water out of the hose
An air-water separator sits between the diffuser and the hose port. It blocks the direct path for splashes and has a small pocket where droplets collect, away from the port.
PurjFam shaped it using fluid-dynamics testing. The result: no more moisture in your hose than you would get with a full-size shisha.

Less foaming
A molasses trap is built into the core. Its stepped grooves catch juice dripping from the bowl before it reaches the water, so the water foams less and stays fresher for longer. The silicone grommet has its own groove to catch more.
The trap is sized for a funnel (phunnel) bowl. A traditional bowl with holes in the base can drip more than it holds. The water may still change colour, but PurjFam say enough juice is kept out to stop it foaming with almost any bowl.

No plastic to hold flavours
The purge uses stainless steel door valves rather than a ball valve. They seal better and let more air through in a small space. A purge valve that leaks lets in room air and waters down the flavour. Every POD is vacuum tested.
There is no plastic in the POD at all. By PurjFam's figures it is about 71% aluminium, 15% glass, 12% silicone and 2% stainless steel. None of these soak up flavour, so your last flavour does not ghost into the next one.

The body cools the water
The aluminium shell works as a heatsink for the water in the base. It has about 225 cm² of contact area, more than the 190 cm² or so PurjFam measured on a standard shisha base.
Aluminium moves heat quickly (about 205 W/m·K), so heat passes out of the water into the room instead of building up. That keeps sessions cool for an hour or more.

A full clean in about two minutes
The downstem and water chamber split in half, so every inside surface is open at once. The juice trap, the purge valves and the air-water separator can all be reached without tools.
There are no threads to unscrew, so a full clean takes PurjFam under two minutes. Stack the parts afterwards to air-dry.

Nothing to rust
There are no magnets and nothing that rusts, so a rinse after each session is enough. You do not need to dry it by hand.
The POD holds together with its silicone seals. They slide over the anodised aluminium and, once the outer shells meet the core, the angle of each seal holds them firmly in place. A firm pull releases them and the POD comes apart.
Made to travel
The seals inside the POD act as suspension and soak up knocks. The glass is held in silicone all the way round, and the thick aluminium shell protects its corners.
At 800 g dry and about 127 × 124 × 106 mm, the POD is small and light enough to take with you.
Figures and test results on this page are PurjFam's own. For setting up, both grommets and cleaning, see the PurjFam POD user guide.
