Finding a tray that fits your hookah

A tray catches falling ash and gives your coals somewhere to rest. Most trays and ashtrays are made for one particular hookah, so start with the model you own and check for its name in the title.

Kinds of tray

• Plates that sit on the stem: the Wookah Stainless Steel Ashtray is one example, a thick 1.4301 (V2A) stainless steel plate that sits on top of a WOOKAH. It is easy to wash, does not absorb smells and is made to fit either version of WOOKAH. The inner hole is about 15mm.
• Add-on kits: some hookahs come without a plate, and a kit adds one. With the Amotion Roam Charcoal Plate Kit, the adapter screws onto the outer thread of the Roam's downstem and a 130mm stainless steel plate rests on top.
• Blow-off ashtrays: these make the tray part of the purge. On the Aeon Vyro Mod Horizon Blow-Off Ashtray, coals go on the upper plate and smoke collects in the lower plate before leaving through a horizontal purge. It is made for VYRO hookahs that are “Ready to MOD”, in finishes such as Black PVD and Rose PVD.

What to check

• The model name, because a tray built for one hookah may not sit on another.
• The inner hole against your stem, where the listing gives a size.
• Whether you want a plain ash catcher or a tray that also changes how your hookah purges.

Looking after it

Will a tray fit any hookah?

Usually not. Most are made for a named model, such as the Wookah ashtray for WOOKAH or the Roam kit for the Amotion Roam, so match the name to your hookah.

What does a blow-off ashtray do?
