Grommets & Seals

Finding the right grommet or seal

Grommets and seals are the small silicone parts that make each joint airtight: bowl to stem, stem to base and hose to hose port. When one stretches, splits or goes missing, air leaks in and the draw turns weak. A spare in the drawer saves a session.

Where each one goes

  • Bowl grommets (for example the Hoob Bowl Grommet or the Shishagear Head Gasket Grip): fit between the bowl and the stem so the bowl sits snugly without wobbling. Most are made for standard bowls, and the Hoob ones come in colours such as Royal Purple and British Racing Green.
  • Base grommets (such as the Hoob Base Grommet): seal the stem into the base. Hoob's suit most bases with a 45mm neck.
  • Hose grommets (such as the Shishagear Silicone Hose Grommet): seal the hose into the hose port and come in big and small sizes.
  • Model-specific parts (for example the XKAH Pro Grommets Set, Starbuzz Carbine Vase Seal or Aeon Vyro One O-Ring Sleeve): made for one hookah, so match the name to yours. Seals for adapters, such as the Dschinni Sealing Ring, list an inner diameter to check.

If you own a Wookah

Wookah parts depend on the version. The Wookah Grommet Set is for the quick lock (QLS) version and the Mini set is for the Wookah Mini, while the Head Bowl Grommet suits either full-size version. The WOOKAH Grommets - Valve set works with the Thread & Grommets model alone. Other parts are in Wookah spares.

If a hose still leaks after a new grommet, look at the connector or valve instead: see hose parts and purge balls and valves.

Questions

How do I know a grommet needs replacing?

If the bowl wobbles, the stem feels loose in the base or you hear air hissing in, the grommet has usually stretched or split.

What size base grommet do I need?

Measure the neck of your base. Hoob base grommets suit most bases with a 45mm neck, and a hookah with its own seal, such as the Starbuzz Carbine, needs the seal made for it.
