Hookah John Bowls

Picking a Hookah John bowl

Hookah John (HJ) bowls are made in the USA from American clay, using the brand's own clay mix. Each model is shaped a little differently, so it helps to know what sets them apart before you choose a glaze.

The main models

  • Harmony: the long-running model, first introduced in 2013 and refined since.
  • Trimony: the same diameter and shape as the Harmony, but deeper so it holds more tobacco, with the spire sliced in three places for more airflow.
  • Shtrimony: about 4" tall and 3" across, holding 16g to 19g.
  • ClassCinco: also about 4" by 3", holding 16g to 20g.
  • Ferris 24: made to pair with the Kaloud Lotus, with a ribbed neck, a sleeker lip for your device, three slits in the spire and grooves on the platform.
  • 80 Feet Espana: a deeper version of the 80 Feet, made after Spanish smokers asked for the original depth back.
  • RAZ: built around a custom clay body that HJ developed for it.

Most models come in a choice of glazes, for example Aurora, Dark Sand or Snow Sand. The glaze changes the look, not the shape, so choose the model first.

Lite, Pro, Max or Kaloud?

Most bowls come in sets. Lite is the bowl, grommet and tray. Pro adds an AOT heat management system. Max adds foil and 1kg of coconut charcoal as well. Some models also have a Kaloud set with a Kaloud Lotus and charcoal. Pick Lite if you already have a heat management device and coconut coals.

Questions

Which HJ bowl suits a Kaloud Lotus?

The Ferris 24 is made to pair with the Lotus: it sits in the bowl with little movement and still has room to breathe.

What is the difference between the Harmony and the Trimony?

They share the same diameter and shape. The Trimony is deeper, so it holds more tobacco, and its spire is sliced in three places for more airflow.
