Mason Bowl

Choosing a Mason bowl

Mason bowls are made from Shishaware, Mason's own stoneware clay. The model lines differ mainly in how much tobacco they hold and whether they are phunnel or multi-hole, so start with how long you like your sessions.

The main lines

  • Gravyl: a deep, wide bowl for 14 to 17g, with a subtle matt glaze, dark tones and engraved patterns around the base for grip. The Gravyl Plus is described as a versatile phunnel.
  • Helyx 2: the flexibility of the Gravyl in a smaller size, with room for 12 to 16g. It has a grooved spire for airflow, thick heat-retaining walls, and is HMD and Provost friendly for blonde or dark flavours.
  • Stynger: a micro bowl for 8 to 12g, designed to get more sessions out of each pack of tobacco.
  • Spheryx: a traditional Egyptian-style bowl with six triangular holes and a slightly concave pack area that keeps the flavour in the bowl.

Each line comes in a range of glazes, for example Myami, Topaz or Fossil, so you can choose your size first and the finish second.

Getting it right

  • Fluff your tobacco and sprinkle it in loosely, without pressing it into the holes or spire.
  • Cover with foil and pierce it evenly, or use a heat management device.
  • On a bowl with holes in the floor, like the Spheryx, some juice can run down the stem. A molasses catcher under the bowl collects it.

The Mason Shishaware Bowl - Carrying Pouch is suede, with a drawstring and the gold Mason mark logo. It fits all Mason bowls, Tymber handle sets and Eclypse tips.
