As a bowl heats up, juice from the tobacco can drip through the holes and run down into your stem and water. A molasses catcher sits between the bowl and the stem and collects that juice, so your downstem stays cleaner and the water in your base stays clear for longer.
Bowls with holes in the floor, such as Egyptian, Turkish and killer bowls, let juice fall straight through, and catchers are often recommended for exactly these. A phunnel bowl, with its raised centre spout, keeps more of the juice in the bowl. You will find both styles among traditional bowls and the wider bowls range.
Empty and rinse the catcher once it has cooled after each session. A cleaning brush reaches the corners.
Will a molasses catcher fit my hookah?
Universal catchers that sit under the bowl fit most shishas. Threaded ones need a thread that matches your stem, and brand-specific catchers list the models they fit.
How do I fit a bowl on the Dschinni catcher?
Take the coal plate off the molasses catcher first, place the bowl on the adapter, then put the coal plate back on.
Do I still need one with a phunnel bowl?
It is less important, as the spout keeps most juice in the bowl. Some people still fit one to keep the stem cleaner.
