Picking a Russian-style base

Russian-style hookahs usually sit in a glass base with a wide neck, and the stem seals into it with a grommet. A new base can replace a broken one or give your set-up a fresh look.

Shapes to choose from

• Drop shape: a rounded, drop-shaped glass base. The Russian Drop Shape Base, for example, is made in Russia, stands 27cm tall with a 45mm inside neck opening and suits tall and short Russian-style hookahs. Colours range from Clear to designs such as Sapphire Waves (dark blue) and Magma.
• Ufo: an alternative shape. The Ufo Russian Style Base - Clear is made in Russia and fits most Russian-style hookahs.

Clear glass lets you see the water level and the smoke. A coloured design such as Magma changes the look of the whole hookah.

Checking the fit

Look at how your stem joins its base before you choose. If it sits in the neck with a grommet, compare it with the neck opening in the listing, such as 45mm on the Drop Shape. If the stem feels loose, a fresh grommet from grommets and seals can help it seal.
